Beschrijving keerzijde Dr. Mary Edwards Walker is depicted in three-quarter view, attired in her surgeon's uniform and holding her pocket surgical kit. The Medal of Honor, awarded to her in 1865, is prominently displayed on her uniform, and a surgeon's pin is visible at her collar. The left side of the design incorporates a detailed rendering of the period Medal of Honor, commemorating the distinction she continued to wear for the remainder of her life. Aanvullende informatie

Mary Walker remains the only woman to have received the Medal of Honor, awarded for her service as a surgeon during the Civil War — a commission she performed without official rank for most of the conflict, as the Army refused to formally enlist female physicians. She was captured by Confederate forces in 1864 and held as a prisoner of war before being exchanged. The Medal of Honor was rescinded in 1917 under revised eligibility criteria, then restored posthumously in 1977.

The .999 silver version of this quarter is a collector-market issue, struck separately from the clad circulation pieces.
