| Descrizione del dritto | Letterpress-printed scrip certificate on a scrap of an earlier banknote, the underlying paper bearing printed elements visible through the overprint. The institution name 'MECHANICS' appears at the top in large serif capitals, followed by 'Savings & Loan Association' in ornate blackletter type, with the denomination numeral '25' at left and right. A vertical oval cartouche at the far left reads 'Twenty-five Cts.' in letterpress, while the main body carries a cursive text clause dated Savannah, June 13, 1862, certifying the deposit of twenty-five cents at four per cent interest payable to bearer in Treasury Notes. A circular red wax or ink seal is impressed at centre-bottom, flanked by two manuscript signatures with 'Pres't.' and 'No.' printed below. |
