Obverse description The Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by a male and female Taino figure on either side, with a crocodile atop the helm above the shield. A scroll below bears the national motto. The commemorative legend 21ST ANNIVERSARY · JAMAICA · INDEPENDENCE arcs around the upper periphery, with the dual dates 1962 and 1983 flanking the shield, and the Franklin Mint initials FM appear in the lower field. The coin was struck to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Jamaican independence.
