Additional information

Issued to mark the 60th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 2007, this piece belongs to a broader Royal Canadian Mint practice of commemorating royal milestones on the standard quarter format — a habit that accelerated sharply through the 2000s as the mint expanded its circulation commemorative program. The three-ply nickel-finish plating, introduced across Canadian coinage in the mid-1990s as a cost-reduction measure, replaced the solid nickel composition that had defined Canadian quarters since 1968.
