Tecumseh's inclusion in this series reflects a broader Canadian effort to acknowledge Indigenous military contributions to the War of 1812, whose bicentennial fell in 2012. The colored application is a secondary process applied after striking — a surface treatment, not an enamel — which means collector handling accelerates color loss at the high points faster than on conventionally finished coinage.
