Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted at approximately 77 years of age, bareheaded, with a necklace and earrings, as rendered by Susanna Blunt. The sovereign's portrait occupies the central field, surrounded by the peripheral legend. The design reflects the fourth definitive portrait of the Queen used on Canadian coinage.

Additional information

Tecumseh's inclusion in this series reflects a broader Canadian effort to acknowledge Indigenous military contributions to the War of 1812, whose bicentennial fell in 2012. The colored application is a secondary process applied after striking — a surface treatment, not an enamel — which means collector handling accelerates color loss at the high points faster than on conventionally finished coinage.
