背面描述 A full-body colourized depiction of Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, a ceratopsian dinosaur native to what is now Alberta, Canada, rendered in naturalistic earth tones of brown, grey, and red. The dinosaur faces left and dominates the central field, with characteristic bony bosses on its skull rendered in vivid detail. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper rim, while 25 CENTS and 2012 appear along the lower rim in two lines. This coin is the first issue in the Royal Canadian Mint's prehistoric creatures series. The colourization technique gives the reverse a striking, lifelike appearance against the polished steel field.

附加信息

Part of the RCM's broader prehistoric creatures series, this issue marks one of the few times a provincially significant fossil find anchored a circulating commemorative. Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai was named for Al Lakusta, the Alberta teacher who discovered a bone bed near Grande Prairie in 1972 — a site that eventually yielded hundreds of specimens and rewrote understanding of ceratopsian herding behavior. The species wasn't formally described until 1992, making its path from schoolteacher's discovery to mint production a 40-year arc.
