Obverse description The obverse bears the fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by sculptor Ago Aarand, depicting the Queen at approximately 64 years of age in right-facing profile. The bust is diademed, with the Queen wearing the Royal Diadem, a necklace, and drop earrings. The encircling legend reads ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA above, with the denomination 25 CENTS positioned in the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse, designed by Wade Stephen Baker and engraved by Susan Taylor, depicts two wolves in close proximity, symbolising family unity and togetherness. The animals are rendered in a naturalistic style, their forms occupying the central field of the coin. The bilingual legend FAMILY and FAMILLE flank the central design, with the date 2000 and the country name CANADA also appearing in the field. The designer's initials WB are incorporated discreetly into the design.
