Reverse description The reverse features two stylized wolves facing each other in a symmetrical composition, symbolizing familial togetherness and unity, as designed by Wade Baker. The word FAMILY appears above the wolves in English, with its French equivalent FAMILLE below, the two terms flanking the central design on either side of the date 2000. The country name CANADA is inscribed along the lower periphery, with the designer's initials WB incorporated into the design field.

Additional information

The "Family" quarter was one of twelve 25-cent pieces issued throughout 2000 under Canada's Millennium Series, each designed to commemorate a different theme tied to Canadian values and society. The program was unprecedented in Canadian coinage — twelve distinct reverse designs circulated simultaneously within a single calendar year, a logistical undertaking the Royal Canadian Mint had never attempted at that scale. Public participation drove the design selection process, with Canadians submitting and voting on concepts.

The Family design was created by Wade Stephen Baker. Mintage ran into the tens of millions, ensuring these reached circulation widely despite collector demand pulling a significant portion out of commerce immediately upon release.
