| Additional information |
Malta decimalized its currency in 1972, replacing the pound-shilling-pence system with the Maltese lira divided into 100 cents. The 1982 issue belongs to the consolidated circulation series that followed the initial decimalization coinage, produced as the new system became fully embedded in daily commerce. The Central Bank of Malta, established only in 1968 — four years after independence — managed the transition with relatively little disruption compared to other newly independent states of the same period.
KM#61 saw consistent production through the early 1980s without significant die varieties documented in the major references.
