The central field bears the inscriptions 'CITY OF NORTH BEND OREGON' in bold block letters, with 'SECOND ISSUE' arching across the upper portion of the field and 'REDEEMABLE DECEMBER 1, 1933' below it. The facsimile signatures of I.N. Hartley, Treasurer, and Edgar McDaniel, Mayor, appear in cursive script in the lower portion of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a decorative wreath of oak leaves and acorns burned into the wood near the rim. |

North Bend issued this wooden emergency scrip in 1933 as cash shortages during the banking crisis left Pacific Northwest timber communities effectively without a functioning local currency. Dozens of Oregon municipalities did the same that year, following the wave of bank failures and Roosevelt's March bank holiday. Most issues were redeemed quickly and destroyed, which accounts for the attrition in surviving examples.
