| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | The circular seal of the City of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, occupies the centre of the note, bearing a heron, a sailing vessel, and the founding date A.D. 1855 within its legend. The commemorative dates 1855 and 1955 flank the seal in bold red numerals, with the words SOUVENIR and CURRENCY printed in large red letters to either side. Denomination panels bearing the numeral 25 appear at upper left and upper right within ornamental cartouches, and a guilloche border frames the entire design, with tree vignettes at the lower corners. |

| Rückseitenbeschreibung | The reverse is printed in green and centres on a large lathe-work guilloche rosette with the numeral 25 in white relief at its heart. The founding and centennial years 1855 and 1955 are placed to the left and right of the rosette respectively. The inscriptions SOUVENIR and CURRENCY appear at the upper corners, while CHARLOTTETOWN CENTENNIAL is set in bold lettering across the lower portion. A faint underprint of the obverse lettering is visible through the paper. |

| Anmerkungen |
In 1955, the City of Charlottetown issued this 25-cent note as part of the centennial celebrations marking one hundred years since the city's incorporation. Municipal scrip of this kind was genuinely rare in mid-twentieth-century Canada — by the postwar period, the practice of local governments issuing their own paper currency had been effectively dead for decades, making this a deliberate commemorative act rather than anything driven by monetary necessity.
Charlottetown held particular symbolic weight as the site of the 1864 Confederation conferences, and the centennial organizers leaned into that identity. Whether the notes actually circulated as currency or functioned purely as souvenirs from the outset is the more interesting question — and the answer is almost certainly the latter.
