Canadian Tire "money" has been issued since 1958 as a customer loyalty scrip redeemable in-store — privately printed currency with no legal tender status but genuine collector traction, particularly for anniversary issues. BA International, the successor firm to the British American Bank Note Company, printed the bulk of Canadian Tire's scrip runs through the latter half of the 20th century, bringing genuine security printing infrastructure to what is essentially a retail promotion vehicle.
The 75th anniversary date refers to Canadian Tire's founding in 1922, not to the scrip program itself. A small but persistent confusion in collector literature.
