The 1985 Jamaican 25-cent piece belongs to a coinage series introduced following Jamaica's shift to a floating exchange rate in 1983, which triggered rapid depreciation of the Jamaican dollar and significantly eroded the purchasing power these coins were meant to represent. Within a decade, inflation had rendered the denomination essentially worthless in daily commerce.
