Polizeiliches Durchgangslager Amersfoort was a German SS-run transit and punishment camp in the Netherlands, operational from 1941. The camp issued its own internal currency — a system used across the Nazi camp network to create the administrative fiction of economic normalcy while preventing prisoners from accessing regular Dutch money. These scrip notes were usable only within the camp, at the canteen, where goods were seldom actually available.
The presence of a watermark in camp-issued scrip of this kind is unusual and worth noting — it suggests the notes were produced with more formal materials than the improvised printing typical of smaller camp issues. Amersfoort's scrip series is among the more documented of the Dutch camp currencies, but survivor accounts consistently record that the canteen system functioned erratically at best.
