A relic of a parallel economy that most military histories overlook. The Republic of Korea deployed substantial combat forces to South Vietnam under the FREEWORLD MILITARY ASSISTANCE program, and rather than allow Korean troops to transact in U.S. Military Payment Certificates or Vietnamese đồng — both of which created black market exposure — Korean headquarters issued its own scrip for internal use. This note circulated exclusively within Korean military installations.
The 1970 series is the better-documented of the issues, though surviving examples remain genuinely scarce. Korean military scrip never entered broader academic cataloging the way MPC did, and many notes were destroyed at the end of tours.
