附加信息

Liberia's 1960–61 coinage series was struck at the Philadelphia Mint under a contract arrangement that reflected the country's long-standing financial and political ties to the United States — ties stretching back to its founding by the American Colonization Society in the 1820s. The U.S. effectively managed Liberian currency matters well into the mid-twentieth century, and Philadelphia produced virtually all of Liberia's coinage during this period.

The series coincided almost exactly with Liberian independence's centennial celebrations and the early presidency of William Tubman, who had by then held office for nearly two decades.
