| Opis awersu | The national coat of arms of Suriname occupies the central field, supported on either side by two indigenous figures. The arms feature a ship and an ellipse divided into quarters with a diamond and a royal palm tree. A wreath of tropical foliage frames the entire design. The legend JUSTITIA PIETAS FIDES arcs along the lower portion of the design, with the country name SURINAME inscribed beneath the shield. The Centrale Bank van Suriname redenominated the national currency in 2004, replacing the guilder at 1,000-to-1, yet chronic inflation eroded the new dollar so badly that by 2016 a further redenomination was already under discussion. This 25-cent piece belongs to the second dollar series issued after that 2016 reform, when the Surinamese dollar was replaced by the current dollar at 10-to-1 — the country's second complete currency overhaul in under two decades.
