Yecla is a small inland municipality in Murcia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 when coin shortages made small transactions nearly impossible. The Republican government had authorized local authorities to fill the gap, producing a patchwork of emergency paper across loyalist Spain — some printed professionally, most produced with whatever equipment was locally available.
The Gari Montaña cataloguing for this piece suggests a relatively obscure emission with limited surviving documentation on the issuing authority's exact administrative structure at the time.
