| Opmerkingen |
Villaralto is a small municipality in the Sierra Morena foothills of Córdoba province. This 25 céntimos piece belongs to the wave of locally issued emergency fractional currency that flooded Republican-controlled Spain from mid-1936 onward, when the hoarding of coins — silver and copper alike — created a crippling shortage of small change almost immediately after the Civil War began. Hundreds of town councils, worker collectives, and local committees printed their own solutions, with wildly inconsistent quality and backing.
The thick card stock construction was typical of municipalities that lacked access to proper banknote paper and improvised with whatever the local printer had on hand.
