| Additional information |
Vilabella is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it resorted to issuing its own emergency fractional currency after the hoarding of metallic coin left local commerce effectively paralyzed. The Republican government's inability to maintain a functioning small-change supply drove this improvisation at the municipal level throughout 1936–37.
Cardboard issues from villages this size survive in wildly uneven numbers — some were printed in tiny quantities, others used heavily and discarded. The Turró census remains the primary tool for establishing relative scarcity among these locales.
