Ulldecona is a small municipality in the Montsià comarca of southern Catalonia, and this note is one of hundreds of hyperlocal emergency issues produced by Spanish Republican towns during the Civil War. The collapse of the Nationalist-held silver coinage supply — combined with hoarding and the rapid withdrawal of metal from circulation — left municipalities scrambling to produce their own fractional scrip. Ulldecona's Ajuntament contracted the job to Imprenta Montsià, a local press, keeping the entire production within the town itself.
The Turró catalogue, the standard reference for Spanish Civil War municipal issues, assigns this the number 2615.
