Sonseca con Casalgordo was one of hundreds of Spanish municipalities that issued emergency fractional scrip during the Civil War after the Republic's small-change coinage vanished almost entirely from circulation in 1936 — hoarded, melted, or simply gone. These local notes, issued by town councils rather than any banking authority, were technically illegal under existing monetary law but tacitly tolerated out of necessity.
The Gari Mon catalogue remains the primary reference for this regional scrip. Survival rates for village-level emissions vary wildly; many were redeemed and destroyed locally, and print runs were rarely documented.
