Sella is a small municipality in the Alicante province of Valencia, and like hundreds of similar towns during the Spanish Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional paper money — known as "moneda local de necesidad" — to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation. The Republican government's inability to supply small change to rural municipalities forced this kind of improvised local solution across the entire zone.
The Gari Mon reference is incomplete, suggesting this piece either wasn't catalogued at time of publication or was recorded without a full sequence number — not unusual for the smaller Valencian councils, many of which issued only a single denomination in tiny quantities.
