25 Céntimos Roses de Llobregat

One of hundreds of emergency fractional notes — locally called moneda de paper or moneda de cartró — issued by Catalan municipalities during 1936–37 when the Republic's small coinage effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted almost immediately after the July 1936 uprising. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized local councils to fill the gap themselves, producing a chaotic but functional parallel system of hyperlocal scrip.

Roses de Llobregat is today known simply as Roses, in the Alt Empordà comarca. These municipal emissions were demonetized and withdrawn after the Nationalist victory, which is why surviving examples tend to come from local collections rather than general circulation finds.
