Comments

Rocafort de Queralt is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Tarragona province, and its wartime paper issues belong to the vast ecosystem of Republican emergency local currency that flooded Catalonia after July 1936. With the banking system disrupted and coin hoarded almost immediately, thousands of ajuntaments and consells issued their own xèrics — local scrip — under a framework loosely tolerated by the Generalitat. Imprenta Sugrañes of Tarragona printed for dozens of these small municipalities across the province.

Turró catalogues this as #2177, placing it deep in a series that runs to well over two thousand distinct municipal emissions.
