Ribes de Freser is a small Pyrenean town in Girona province, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued fractional paper money to compensate for the near-total disappearance of copper and silver coin from circulation. The Republican government's wartime decree authorizing local emergency currency opened the door to thousands of these village-level issues, most printed in tiny quantities and used only within the issuing municipality.
Turró catalogues this as #2110. Local issues from small Ripollès towns survive in far lower numbers than their urban counterparts — the smaller the issuing body, the shorter the print run.
