Opmerkingen

Quintanar de la Orden is a small agricultural town in Toledo province, and like hundreds of other Spanish municipalities it issued its own emergency fractional paper during the Civil War when Republican-zone coinage effectively disappeared from circulation. The small-denomination metal currency hoarding problem was severe enough by 1937 that even village-level authorities were authorized — or simply compelled by necessity — to produce their own substitutes.

The Gari Montserrat catalog remains the primary reference for these local Spanish Civil War emissions, and the 1214-A designation suggests at least one variant exists within this type.
