Prades is a small Catalan hill town — population under a thousand even today — and its municipal council issued this 25 céntimos note in 1937 as the Republican zone's small-change crisis bit hard. The war had pulled coins out of circulation almost entirely, partly through hoarding, partly because the metal itself had strategic value. Hundreds of Catalan municipalities responded by printing their own fractional paper, and Imprenta Sugrañes in Tarragona supplied several of them.
The Turró catalogue documents over two thousand distinct Spanish Civil War municipal issues. Prades sits near the high end of scarcity for a note this small.
