Opmerkingen

La Portella is a tiny municipality in the Noguera comarca of Catalonia, and like dozens of similarly small localities, it issued emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War when metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized these local emissions — known as "moneda local de guerra" — from 1936 onward, and Imprenta Payà in Lleida printed for numerous small councils in the surrounding region, working under considerable logistical pressure as the front moved closer.

Turró catalogs this emission as #1972, placing it among the rarer municipal issues. La Portella's small population meant limited print runs and limited surviving stock.
