Opmerkingen

Poleñino is a village in Huesca province, Aragon — population a few hundred at the time — and like dozens of equally small Republican-held municipalities in 1937, it issued its own emergency fractional paper because the peseta coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. Hoarding, melting, and the breakdown of normal supply channels stripped small change from the entire zone. Local councils stepped in to fill the gap with whatever printing resources they had at hand.

The Garrut Moragas census (from which the Gari Mon reference derives) documented hundreds of these Aragonese municipal emissions, most surviving in tiny quantities. Poleñino's issue is among the more obscure entries in that catalog.
