Plana de Riucorb is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly obscure towns, it issued emergency fractional paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's metallic coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely by mid-1937. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local authorities to fill the small-change vacuum themselves, which produced an extraordinary proliferation of hyper-local scrip — Turró's catalog documents well over two thousand distinct issues from this period.
With a population measured in the hundreds, the actual print run for this note was almost certainly minimal. Few survived.
