Petrés is a village in the Valencian municipality of Camp de Morvedre, and in 1937 its population was under five hundred. That a settlement this small issued its own emergency currency is not unusual for Republican Spain during the Civil War — hundreds of municipalities did the same after the hoarding of coins and metal drained small change from daily commerce almost entirely. These local issues, known collectively as papel moneda local, were typically authorized under regional decrees and had no validity beyond the issuing town's boundaries.
The Turró and Gari catalogues together document only a single type for Petrés, suggesting the council issued one denomination and stopped there.
