Ojós is a village in Murcia with a population that has rarely exceeded a few hundred people — which makes the decision to issue emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War more administrative necessity than economic ambition. Like hundreds of other Republican municipalities, Ojós produced local fractional currency after the hoarding and disappearance of small coins created a genuine transactional breakdown in 1936–37.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference places this firmly within the broader municipio emergency series. These hyper-local issues were typically produced in very small runs, often on whatever paper stock was available, and many were never redeemed — leaving survival rates that bear no relationship to original print quantities.
