Opmerkingen

Mequinenza is a small mining town at the confluence of the Ebro and Segre rivers in Aragon — coal territory, and Republican-held through much of the Civil War. Like hundreds of Spanish municipalities in 1936–37, the Consejo Municipal issued emergency fractional paper when the withdrawal of hoarded coins created a near-total breakdown of small-denomination exchange. The 25 céntimos denomination was among the most urgently needed, since silver and copper coins of that value had effectively vanished from circulation within months of the July 1936 uprising.

Printed by Imp. Pagès in Lérida, which handled municipal emergency issues for several towns across the province. The town was submerged in 1966 following construction of the Ribarroja reservoir.
