Opmerkingen

Martos is a small municipality in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, and this 25 céntimos note belongs to the wave of locally-issued emergency paper money — known as billetes locales or cartones — that flooded Spain during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation. Hundreds of ayuntamientos printed their own scrip between 1936 and 1938, most on whatever stock was available, which is why thickness and card quality vary so widely within the same municipality's issues.

The Gari Monerris catalog remains the primary reference for this material, though attribution and survival rates for minor Andalusian towns are notoriously difficult to pin down.
