Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the first years of the Civil War, when the Republican government's inability to maintain adequate coin supply forced local councils to print their own fractional currency. The Ajuntament de Llevantí de Mar — a small coastal town in the Baix Empordà — turned to Imprenta C. Barnés in nearby Palamós, a local commercial press wholly unsuited to security printing but the practical choice given wartime conditions.

Barnés produced notes for several surrounding municipalities during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance across issues from the Costa Brava interior. The Turró reference series documents over 1,400 distinct Catalan local issues from 1936–1937 alone.
