La Selva del Camp is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 after the Republican government's decree authorizing local authorities to produce small-denomination notes to replace the hoarded or disappeared coinage. The Turró catalog documents thousands of these emissions; #2319 places this 25 céntimos issue firmly within that chaotic but methodically catalogued body of wartime municipal paper.
The official stamp is the only security measure — which was typical of the smaller municipalities, where printing resources were limited to whatever local press existed.
