La Riba is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during 1936–37, it issued its own fractional emergency currency after the Civil War disrupted the supply of Republican small change. These municipal notes — known collectively as paper moneda local — were authorized under a framework that gave individual ayuntamientos broad latitude to print what they needed, which is why the Imprenta Solé in Tarragona ended up producing issues for multiple small towns across the province.
The Turró catalogue remains the definitive reference for this material, and the 2097 assignment places this squarely among the mid-war Tarragona provincial emissions.
