La Bisbal del Penedès is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional currency after the Republican government's decree of June 1937 authorized local emergency emission. This 25 céntimos note was printed by Arts Gràfiques Barnadas in the nearby town of El Vendrell — a local press pressed into service for what was essentially a stop-gap against the chronic shortage of small-denomination coin that plagued Republican-held territory throughout the conflict.
Signed by the alcalde Llorenç Urpí and finance councillor Josep Capelet, the note falls under the Turró catalogue at #454, placing it among the documented but modestly scarce local issues from the Penedès region.
