L'Albiol is a tiny municipality in the Camp de Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish Republican-controlled towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper fractional currency in 1937 when metal coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply never minted in sufficient quantities to meet wartime demand. These municipal notes, broadly catalogued under the Catalan *moneda de necessitat* category, were produced locally under widely varying quality controls, which is why paper stock, typography, and stamping consistency differ so dramatically from one small issuer to the next.
Turró 69 is among the harder L'Albiol pieces to find in any honest condition, owing to its extremely limited original issue volume.
