Jódar is a small municipality in Jaén province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when the Republic's small change dried up entirely. The Comité de Abastos — a supply committee, not a bank — had no printing infrastructure worth the name, which is why these local emergency pieces were typically produced on whatever card stock or heavy paper was at hand rather than purpose-made banknote paper.
Catalogued under Gari Monferrer's exhaustive study of Spanish Civil War local issues, the 799-A suffix indicates a distinct variety within the Jódar emissions. Survival rates for Jaén province committee issues are uneven; many were redeemed or simply discarded once Republican administration stabilized locally.
