One of thousands of small-denomination emergency notes — paper money locally known as moneda de paper — issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War after metallic coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation in 1936. Farners de la Selva, a small spa town in the Girona comarca of La Selva, printed this 25 céntimos locally through its own municipal press rather than waiting for any central Republican authority to fill the gap.
Turró's exhaustive catalog of Catalan municipal issues documents the extraordinary fragmentation of this period: over 1,200 distinct issuers, many printing notes in editions of just a few hundred pieces.
