25 Céntimos Esparreguera

Esparreguera is a small town in the Baix Llobregat comarca, southwest of Barcelona. During the Civil War, hundreds of Catalan municipalities issued their own fractional currency after the Republican government's metallic coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. These locally printed notes — collectively catalogued under the billetes locales category — were typically valid only within the issuing municipality, sometimes for weeks before being superseded or repudiated.
