El Pla de Cabra is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper money after the Republic's metallic coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The hoarding and melting of coins — copper included — forced even tiny ajuntaments to print their own emergency suplements. Turró catalogued over two thousand such issues from Catalonia alone.

Printed by Imprenta E. Castells in nearby Valls, this note would have served purely local exchange. The Castells shop handled a number of municipal emergency issues from the surrounding comarca, which is worth knowing when assessing paper and printing consistency across similar pieces.
