Diezma is a small municipality in the province of Granada, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War period, its ayuntamiento issued emergency fractional scrip to address the near-total disappearance of coin from circulation after 1936. The Republican zone experienced a severe small-change crisis almost immediately — hoarding, melting, and supply disruption stripped towns of anything metallic, forcing local councils to print their own.
The Gari Mon reference is incomplete, which is unsurprising for rural Granadan municipal issues — many remain uncatalogued or poorly documented, surviving in single-digit quantities.
