Dehesas de Guadix is a small municipality in the Granada province of Andalusia, and like hundreds of similar townships across Republican-held Spain, its local council issued emergency fractional paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's metal coinage effectively vanished from circulation by 1936–37. These municipal emergency emissions — known collectively as papel moneda local — were produced under desperate circumstances, often printed locally on whatever stock was available, with no central oversight of design or security features.
The Gari Montalban catalogue remains the primary reference for these Spanish Civil War local issues, and the 590-A designation places this squarely within that documented but thinly surviving series.
