Additional information

This issue was produced under the coinage law of 1848, which reorganized Spain's fractional copper currency as the country lurched through the moderate liberal governments of Isabel II's troubled reign. The centimos de real system was itself a transitional scaffold — retained only until the escudo-based decimal reform of 1864 swept it away entirely.

Barcelona and Segovia struck the bulk of the series, and die quality varied considerably between the two mints across the decade.
