Comments

Campo de Criptana issued its own fractional currency in 1937 because the Spanish Civil War had effectively destroyed the small-change supply across Republican-held territory. Silver and copper coinage disappeared almost immediately after July 1936 — hoarded, melted, or simply lost in the chaos — leaving municipal councils throughout La Mancha to fill the gap with locally printed paper. These consejo municipal issues were produced under no central authority and with whatever printing equipment the town had on hand.

The Gari Mon reference places this firmly in the documented Castilla-La Mancha local emission series, though survival rates for Campo de Criptana pieces are low given the purely functional, disposable nature of wartime fractional scrip.
