Opmerkingen

Criptana — now Campo de Criptana, La Mancha — issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War because the Republic's small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation by 1937, hoarded or melted as the war economy ground down the monetary system. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities did the same, producing what collectors now call billetes de necesidad. The Consejo Municipal's issues were purely local instruments, valid only within the town and redeemable in theory once hostilities ended — a promise few issuers could keep.

Gari Monerris remains the authoritative reference for these Valencian and Manchegan emergency pieces, and the 574-A suffix suggests at least one catalogued variety exists for this denomination.
