| Obverse description | The face is printed in red-brown on a cream paper ground and consists entirely of typeset text within a central rectangular panel, itself enclosed by a dense ornamental guilloche border with scalloped inner and outer edges. The issuing authority name and denomination are set in the largest typefaces at the top of the panel, followed by the reimbursement clause and date in smaller italic letterpress. One of thousands of emergency fractional notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when the Republican government's inability to maintain small coin circulation left local authorities printing their own scrip. The Ajuntament de Codines del Vallès — a small town in the Vallès Oriental comarca — did what hundreds of similarly sized municipalities did in 1937: commissioned local or regional printers to produce low-denomination paper to keep daily commerce functional.
Imprenta Avant was a Barcelona press with anarcho-syndicalist affiliations, which placed it squarely in the political current running through Republican Catalonia at the time. Most of these municipal emissions were demonetized and destroyed after the Nationalist victory in 1939.
